Learning and Completing the ARLA Exams
Since joining Paramount in September, I have undertaken the challenge of learning and completing the ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) Level 3 course. ARLA Level 3 is made up of 4 units.
- Unit 1 Health and Safety, Security & General Law in relation to Residential Letting
- Unit 2 Legal Aspects of Letting and Management
- Unit 3 Residential Property Letting Practice
- Unit 4 Residential Property Management Practice
I undertook my first exam Unit 1 on 16 th November and was very pleased that I passed the unit at first attempt. I have my second exam for Unit 2 which is scheduled for 7 th December, along with Steve Wilson from our management team as this is his last unit for him to complete.
I have been spending most of my evenings and time in while in the office in between appointments learning as much as I can as it will be very important in my career that I have the extra knowledge that ARLA provides.
ARLA stands for the Association of Residential Letting Agents and prides itself as the only professional self-regulating body to be solely concerned with lettings and letting agents.
There are many good reasons why a landlord should choose an ARLA registered agent. The 5 main ones are:
- When you instruct an ARLA registered agent you are certain your agent is covered by the ARLA Client Money Protection Scheme. This means that if your agent experiences financial difficulty, then your money and your tenants money is safe!
- Any ARLA agent must have Professional Indemnity Insurance, which means that as a landlord you have peace of mind when it comes to negligence or any incidents within the work place.
- ARLA agents are required to be trained and qualified and have to follow a structured program of Continuous Professional Development to keep up to date with current legislation. This means that the advice being given is solid, and current knowledge.
- All ARLA agents voluntarily adhere to the Code of Practice and Rules of Conduct for their professional body, which means they trade to the highest possible professional standards.
- If an issue arises with an ARLA agent you know you have an option to redress the situation by taking the matter up with ARLA directly.
I am aiming to have all four units completed by the end January 2018, wish me luck!
